Welcome to Seven Hills Cities Virtual Journeys!
Hills were favored in building the early human settlements both for the protection they provided against the elements, such as floods of near-by-rivers, and against attacking enemies. Communities built on top, on the side or at the foot of hills were offered a good view of the surrounding neighborhoods and a shield to foe's incursions. Hills provided a major advantage to any army due to their elevation. They forced the invading army to charge uphill for attack. They hid the forces behind them, allowing the defending army to lay in wait on the top of the hill, using it for cover, and firing on unsuspecting attackers as they approached the hilltop.
Traditionally Rome, Italy, was and is still known as "La Città Dei Sette Colli", the City of the Seven Hills. In reality there are 59 cities in 34 countries worldwide built on or among seven hills. All will be described in my blog. From the Old World to the New World you will travel and admire human creation from the comfort of your homes. Enjoy!
